Norma Shearer portrait (c.1917)
Shearer was one of the most popular actresses in North America from the mid-1920s through the 1930s. Her early films cast her as the girl-next-door but for most of the Pre-Code film era beginning with the 1930 film The Divorcee, for which she won an Oscar for Best Actress, she played sexually liberated women in sophisticated contemporary comedies

The Irish Girl - Ford Madox Brown (1860)
While looking for models for his most famous piece ‘Work’, Ford Madox Brown came across this young girl selling oranges and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to paint such a haunting. beauty. This portrait was to be viewed in conjunction or comparison to The English Boy, who was modelled by FMD’s own son, Oliver.
